Reading, writing and handwashing
When In-Person learning students go back to school the week of Aug. 17, they’ll be welcomed by excited teachers and staff who’ll introduce them to a series of safety protocols designed to keep them healthy. Some of those measures, like wearing masks and maintaining physical distance, are new. But others, like handwashing, will be familiar.
“Handwashing is one of the best ways to slow the spread of germs that can cause a variety of illnesses, like the common cold, diarrhea and influenza,” said Michelle Weinraub, director of CCSD Health Services. “During the COVID-19 pandemic, handwashing is more important than ever, because the coronavirus is very contagious. We can truly mitigate the spread of COVID-19 by washing our hands frequently and taking other simple steps like wearing a mask.
“Washing your hands is something everyone can and should do,” Weinraub added.
During the school day, students will be given frequent opportunities to wash their hands, and CCSD has put together this video to show proper handwashing technique.
Everyone is encouraged to wash their hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, making sure to scrub the backs of their hands, their thumbs and between their fingers. Hand sanitizer will also be available in classrooms and common areas to supplement handwashing and other health and hygiene measures.
