State Spirit – Three district teams take second at State
District cheer and pom squads represented CCSD very well last Thursday and Friday at the Colorado State Spirit Championships in Colorado Springs. On March 25, the Smoky Hill cheer squad took the runner-up trophy in 4A/5A Gameday division. Valor Christian took home the state crown with 96.95 points over the Buffaloes’ 93.80. Cherry Creek placed sixth.
On March 26, the Cherry Creek pom squad took home second-place honors in the 5A Poms division with a final score of 90.38, narrowly bested by Rock Canyon’s 91.15 - less than a point. Grandview took third.
Also on day two, Cherokee Trail was the runner-up in the 5A Jazz division trailing State Champion Mountain Vista. All in all, a great showing by our district cheer and pom teams!
Also, Eaglecrest dance coach Mistelle Comeau-Jimenez was awarded the Virginia Lorbeer Impact Coach Scholarship Award by the Colorado High School Activities Association (CHSAA). The award is given to the individual who “shows dedication to their program, demonstrates integrity, emphasizes the team aspect of the sport and takes the lead in supporting their school and community.” Ms. Comeau-Jimenez has been the Raptors dance choreographer since 2014. Congratulations!
