CCSD Middle School Choral Festival a celebration of students and song
Last month, middle school students from across the Cherry Creek School District gathered at Smoky Hill and Cherokee Trail high schools for the annual Middle School Choral Festival. After spending the better part of the past year-and-a-half of making music virtually or in cohorts because of the COVID-19 pandemic, it was exciting to see so many students singing together again.
On Nov. 1, choir students from Campus, Horizon, Laredo, Prairie and West middle schools met at Smoky Hill High School, while those from Falcon Creek, Fox Ridge, Infinity, Liberty, Sky Vista and Thunder Ridge middle schools met at Cherokee Trail High School. During their time together, the students had an opportunity to perform for one another, offer feedback to each other and connect with one another through a common love of singing. Each group also had an opportunity to work in a clinic with high school choral directors Paige Lekow and Aaron Jaramillo from Cherokee Trail and Phil Drozda from Overland High School.
“The Vocal Music Fall Festival is a day where middle school choir students from every school in our district come together for a fun day of music," said Shannon Schell, vocal music director at Fox Ridge Middle School. "The camaraderie built that day is meant to help students see that Cherry Creek Schools values excellence in music as well as connection throughout the district.”
The day concluded with all of the students singing together in a beautiful performance of “There Has to Be a Song.”
