5A Boys Basketball – Smoky Hill and Eaglecrest lead the way
The Smoky Hill Buffaloes went 2-0 last week starting Centennial Conference play. The Buffaloes got a big 78-60 win over Aurora rival Eaglecrest on Jan. 5 and defeated Arapahoe on Jan. 7. After a 5-4 non-conference record in and out of the state of Colorado, Coach Anthony Hardin’s charges are looking to lead the 5A Centennial in 2022.
The Eaglecrest Raptors have gone 6-3 outside the Centennial League and have split their first two conference games – the Eaglecrest loss, and a win over Overland on Jan. 7. Coach Jarris Krapcha’s Raptors are 7-4 overall.
5A Wrestling – District clubs distinguish themselves in tournament competition
CCSD boys and girls wrestling teams continued match play last week, with terrific results.
Grandview won the Smoky Hill Invitational last Saturday, besting third-place Cherry Creek and fourth-place Eaglecrest. Overland and the host Buffaloes finished ninth and tenth respectively.
Cherokee Trail took top honors on Jan. 8 at the Legend Duals, going a perfect 5-0 in their matches.
On the girls side, Eaglecrest won the Lady Savage Invitational on Jan. 8 at Lamar High School. Raptors’ grapplers Chasey Karabell (100 lbs.) Scarlett Williams (161 lbs.) and Blythe Cayko (185 lbs.) all took home championships.
Congrats to all of our district wrestlers!
