CCSD names newest elementary school

ES #45 is now Woodland ElementaryDrumroll, please! After a community process to select a permanent name for Cherry Creek School’s newest elementary school, the Board of Education approved Elementary School #45’s new name at its regular meeting on March 7: Woodland Elementary, home of the bold, brave and brilliant Bears. The school colors will be red and black.

“Our new name honors Colorado’s natural beauty as well as our school’s culture of community, growth and connection,” Woodland Elementary Principal Teolyn Bourbonnie said. “As the Bears, we will represent the courage, strength and the power to follow your dreams!”

Woodland Elementary was chosen because of its close connection to the Colorado landscape. As a thriving ecosystem with diverse plants and animals, woodland areas have a rich history of folklore and magical creatures which have inspired people for generations. Similarly, Woodland Elementary will strive to be a place of diverse cultures, rich experiences and a safe place for the wonder and magic of learning.

Woodland Elementary teachersIn January and February, members of the Cherry Creek Schools community submitted name and mascot suggestions. After the naming committee narrowed the names down to three options, families who were enrolled in the school were able to vote on their favorite. Woodland Elementary will open in August 2022 and is located in the southeast part of the school district.

Congratulations Woodland Elementary, home of the Bears!
