RoboCon is coming!

Students at RoboCon 2020More than 60 teams of elementary and middle school students will demonstrate their knowledge and skill in robotics at the second annual Cherry Creek Schools RoboCon, to be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, March 26, at West Middle School, located at 5151 S. Holly Street in Greenwood Village. The event is supported by the Cherry Creek Schools Foundation.

The student teams will compete in three types of Wonder League, Vex IQ and Jr. First Lego League. They will be using robotics equipment that was provided to schools through grant funding. In addition, high school robotics teams will perform special demonstrations of high school-level competition robots.

Students at RoboCon 2020“RoboCon is a district-wide robotics competition that was created to foster interest and inspire students to pursue robotics coursework,” said Sarah Grobbel, Assistant Superintendent for Career, Innovation and Student Engagement for Cherry Creek Schools. “Across our district, students from kindergarten through 12th grade have the opportunity to learn about robotics in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) classes, and many schools also offer extracurricular robotics clubs.”

RoboCon helps students develop STEM skills including engineering and computer coding. It also promotes problem-solving, critical thinking, collaboration and communication.
