The week that was: A wrap-up of CCSD Athletics from the week of April 25
5A Boys Volleyball – CCSD clubs win their regionals
Last Friday evening was a very good one for district boys’ volleyball clubs. Cherry Creek, Eaglecrest and Cherokee Trail all advanced to the 2022 state tournament to be held at Overland High School on May 5-7. All three clubs got 3-0 shutout wins over their opponents to advance.
Number one overall seed Cherry Creek defeated No. 16 Westminster (25-10) (25-10) (25-17). The Bruins advance to play No. 8 Regis Jesuit at 4 p.m. on May 5.
Third-seeded Eaglecrest also got the 3-0 shutout (25-14) (25-15) (25-21) of 14th seeded Poudre School District. The Raptors will take on No. 6 Legend at 6 p.m. on May 5.
Also last Friday, No. 5 Cherokee Trail got the 3-0 victory (25-23) (25-21) (25-18) over No. 12 Cheyenne Mountain. The Cougars will play No. 4 Discovery Canyon at Overland at 4 p.m. on Thursday.

5A Track & Field: Great competition at the 2022 Stutler Twilight
District clubs fared well on April 30 at the 2002 Stutler Twilight Invitational, held at the Stutler Bowl. Comfortable temperatures and the occasional light breeze made for perfect conditions for the athletes.
The Grandview boys’ team won the overall team competition, with Cherokee Trail taking second and Cherry Creek third. Eaglecrest and Smoky Hill finished 13th and 16th respectively.
For the girls, Cherokee Trail was the overall team winner, with Cherry Creek finishing third and Grandview fourth. Eaglecrest came in sixth, and Smoky 16th.
In the individual events on the boys’ side, Grandview swept the first three places in the 100 and 200 meter dash and took firsts in the 110 and 300 meter hurdles. The Wolves also won the 4x100 and 4x800 meter relays. In the field, GHS took first in the pole vault.
Cherokee Trail took top honors in the 4x400 meter relay. In field events, the Cougars took the top spot in the triple jump.
On the girls’ side, CT took firsts in the 100 meter dash, long jump and triple jump.
Cherry Creek won the 400 meter dash and he 4x800 meter relay. In addition, senior Riley Stewart set a new state record time of 10:09.26 in the 3200 meter run. In the field, the Bruins took first in the discus and shot put.
Grandview took the top spot in the 100 meter and Eaglecrest got wins in the 4x100 and 4x200 meter relays.

The 2022 State Track & Field Championships will be held on May 19-21 at Jefferson County Stadium in Lakewood.
