CCSD launches partnership with Hazel Health for free mental health services

Timely access to mental health supportCherry Creek School District launched a new mental health teletherapy service with Hazel Health. With Hazel, students can meet with a licensed therapist in a matter of days, bridging the gap until local therapists become available.

“This will be a game-changer for our students and families,” CCSD Superintendent Christopher Smith said. “We know that access to mental health resources is critical for students to succeed in school. This partnership with Hazel Health is a big step in providing support for our kids.”

As part of this partnership, students will be able to discuss issues such as anxiety, bullying, grief or family relationship challenges. Hazel Health will work with families to coordinate mental health care and help connect students with local providers for additional services, if needed. Hazel Health therapists specialize in children and teenagers and have a multilingual team for students who speak a language other than English.

This partnership is one of many ways the district is creating solutions to support student health. In addition to two School-Based Community Health Centers and the first-of-its-kind Mental Health Day Treatment Center, the district also rolled out a series of posters to help connect students to resources in their school. Students scan a QR code which takes them to a website listing school social workers, counselors and other staff that can support student needs.

“We know that when students feel safe and supported, they are more likely to engage in school, build positive relationships and make healthy choices,” Smith said. “We must take action to ensure that this next generation has all the resources they need to become learners and leaders.”
