Honoring the Cherry Creek Schools Board of Education during School Board Recognition Month
The five members of the Cherry Creek Schools Board of Education are dedicated public servants – unpaid volunteers – who work diligently to ensure that the children of Cherry Creek receive the best education possible – one that helps them discover their pathway of purpose and prepares them for success in college, the military, or the workplace.
January is School Board Recognition Month, and the Cherry Creek School District is proud to acknowledge the steadfast commitment and invaluable contributions made by the members of the Board of Education: Kelly Bates, Janice McDonald, Angela Garland, Anne Egan, and Kristin Allan.
“How fortunate we are to have these selfless volunteers leading our district,” said Superintendent Christopher Smith. “They live our Core Values every day as they carefully consider many challenging and complex issues. Every decision they make is based on what is in the best interest of our students, and we appreciate the time and energy they bring to our organization.”
In honor of the board members and as part of School Board Recognition Month, the district – in partnership with the Cherry Creek Schools Foundation – is hosting a donation drive to support food pantries located in nine CCSD schools, which serve dozens of families in need each month. The drive will be conducted by high school feeder area starting this month and will continue through the spring and fall. Get more information about the drive and how you can help here.
Board members are responsible for the academic success of more than 53,000 students, as well as the efficient management of a district with nearly 9,000 full and part-time employees and an annual general fund budget of over $670 million. They spend countless hours studying student achievement and school finance, working with lawmakers and educational experts, meeting with district administrators, teachers, staff members, parents, and students, and attending school and district events.
Each board member represents one of the district’s five director districts, but they are elected ‘at-large’ to four-year terms by registered voters via a non-partisan ballot.
Board of Education meetings are generally held at 7 p.m. on the second Monday of the month at one of the Cherry Creek schools. Contact information for the Board of Education is 720-554-4300 or ccsdboard@cherrycreekschools.org.
