5A Baseball: All-state teams announced

The 2023 All-state baseball teams were announced on June 21. Honorees were selected by the leagues and coaches throughout the state.

2^nd Team:

Kurby Lyle Award: Two Cherry Creek student athletes honored

Cherry Creek High School graduates Sawyer Billings and Blake Purchase are the Kurby Lyle Award honorees for the 2022-23 season.

Billings was a star for the Bruins’ girls lacrosse team as a four-year letterman (her freshman season was cancelled in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic). She has committed to play lacrosse at Stanford after taking a gap year to volunteer and study abroad in Europe. She will enter the school in the fall of 2024.

Oregon football commit Blake Purchase was a four-time State Champion with the CCHS football team and also lettered in basketball. Purchase is the Colorado Gatorade Player of the Year for the 22-23 season.

The Kurby Lyle Award, established in 1988, honors the legendary basketball coach and former athletic director for Chery Creek High School. Each year, one male and one female recipient are selected by CCSD athletics directors from nominations from the district’s six comprehensive high schools.
