CCSD Athletics: Highlights from the week of March 11, 2024

SHHS Carter Basquez6A Boys Basketball: CCSD players earn All-State honors

Eight student athletes from the Cherry Creek School District were among the players who earned All-State honors in 6A basketball. CHSSANow.com and MaxPreps announced the 6A Boys All-State basketball teams on March 19. Teams were compiled from league nominations and a final coaches’ vote.

First Team:

LaDavian King – Junior, Eaglecrest

Second Team:

Carter Basquez – Sophomore, Smoky Hill

Kaylan Graham – Junior, Smoky Hill

Honorable Mention:

Siraaj Ali – Junior, Overland

Garrett Barger – Junior, Eaglecrest

Jeremiah Hammond – Sophomore, Cherry Creek

Alex Riddick – Senior, Grandview

Kevin Sylla – Senior, Smoky Hill

5A Baseball5A Baseball: District teams on the road to warmer climes

CCSD baseball teams spent part of their spring break on the road to Arizona, New Mexico and southern Colorado, playing games in warmer and dryer conditions.

Cherokee Trail (3-2 overall) went 2-1 in the Best of the West Tourney in Arizona last week. The Cougars are back in Colorado as they host Rock Canyon on March 27.

Cherry Creek was undefeated at the Coach Bob Invitational in Arizona during the break. The Bruins went 3-0-1, and return to Colorado sporting a 3-1-2 record. A spring snowstorm has the immediate Creek schedule TBA. Otherwise, the Bruins will host Mountain Vista on April 1.

Eaglecrest (2-2 overall) went 1-1 over the break as they traveled to Southern Colorado for games. Up next, the Raptors host Vista Peak Prep on March 29.

Grandview was also participating in the Coach Bob Invite in Arizona last week. The Wolves went 1-2, and return to Colorado with a 2-2 record. GHS will resume play at Mountain Vista on March 27.

Overland (0-3) had no games scheduled during the break and will try and get their first win at Thornton on March 28.

Smoky Hill spent part of their break at the Scorpion Invitational in New Mexico. The Buffs went 1-2 in their games, and bring a 1-4 mark back to Aurora. Smoky will play at A-Town rival Rangeview on March 27.
