Educators, students, and transportation professionals honored at the annual Golden Heart Awards

Golden Heart Award Sign The 22nd annual Golden Heart Awards honored eleven outstanding individuals for their strong relationships with students who have special needs. The awardees include para professionals, teachers, transportation professionals, and fellow students. The support and passion that these individuals have demonstrated has made a profound difference in the lives of our students. The Golden Heart Awards are presented each year by the Cherry Creek Schools Special Education Advisory Committee (SEAC).

This year, SEAC also presented the first Linda Snelgrove Scholarship in honor of Linda Snelgrove, a special education teacher at Grandview High School, who retired in 2023. During her time as a special educator, Snelgrove Scholarship awardee holding checkpositively affected hundreds of students with special needs. This scholarship was awarded to a student who is planning to enter special education through teaching, therapy, or support services. The 2024 recipient was Ziarra Gaiter, a senior at Cherokee Trail high school.

The Special Education Advisory Committee focuses on the educational needs of students with disabilities. The committee is composed of parents of children with special needs, as well as professionals and community members. It serves in an advisory capacity to Student Achievement Services/Special Populations and the Cherry Creek Board of Education. Get more information about SEAC here.
