CCSD Athletics: Highlights from the week of April 15, 2024
A classic Colorado spring snowstorm took its toll on outdoor sporting events across the district late last week. Many contests were postponed and are being rescheduled. Get schedule updates and other helpful information on the Centennial League Athletic Schedule.
5A Boys Swimming & Diving: John Strain Memorial Invite
Cherry Creek High School held its annual John Strain Memorial Invitational on April 19 and 20. The Bruins hosted Cherokee Trail, Grandview, Overland and five other schools for the event.
Creek took home the overall team championship, winning the top spots in 8 of 12 events. Regis Jesuit was second overall, Highlands Ranch third, and Grandview finished fourth. Cherokee Trail came in eighth, with Overland finishing tenth.
Cherry Creek Head Coach Chris Loftis said the event was good preparation for the upcoming postseason.
“We think it’s a fast meet because of the teams we invite, and they like coming back,” he said. “It’s a good kick-off to the championship run. Our guys swam inspired. They were challenged yesterday (in Friday’s preliminary rounds) and they responded.”
Grandview took the top podium spot in the 100-yard backstroke, while Overland had the highest finisher in the 1-meter diving completion, coming in ninth.

The 5A State Championships will take place on May 10 and 11 at the Veterans Memorial Aquatic Center (VMAC) in Thornton.
5A Boys Track and Field: Eaglecrest travels to the Oregon Relays
The Eaglecrest track and field team sent athletes to Eugene, Oregon for the prestigious Oregon Relays held at Hayward Field on the University of Oregon Campus on April 19 and 20.
The Raptors were up against some of the toughest competition from the west, and participated in a limited number of events. EHS student athletes acquitted themselves well and got valuable experience at a big stage event.
National Letter of Intent: Signing ceremonies across the district
CCSD high school athletic departments held signing ceremonies on April 17 and 18.
