CCSD Athletics: Highlights from the week of Aug. 5, 2024
Eaglecrest graduate wins silver medal at Paris Olympics
Eaglecrest graduate and U.S. Women’s Volleyball player Jordyn Poulter added to her illustrious list of career accomplishments on Aug. 11 as the Americans won the silver medal at the 2024 Olympics in Paris.
Poulter and Team U.S.A. won gold at the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo but fell to the number 1-seeded Italian team on Sunday in straight sets (25-18) (25-20) (25-17) in the gold medal final. The top-ranked Italians lost only one set in their undefeated run to the crown. The U.S. finished the tournament at 4-2.
After graduating from Eaglecrest in 2014, Poulter went on to a great career at the University of Illinois, gaining All-American honors. She graduated from college in 2018 and was named to the U.S. national team that same year. She has played professionally in Italy since then. In a match in December 2022, she suffered a major knee injury which kept her out of competition for more than a year. However, she made it her goal to return to the Olympic Games this year.
