Cherry Creek Schools Joins Quantum Tech Hub K-12 Initiative

Quantum ComputingCherry Creek School District (CCSD) is honored to be selected as a K-12 partner in the Elevate Quantum [elevatequantum.org] consortium, a groundbreaking initiative that positions Colorado and the Mountain West at the forefront of quantum computing across the globe.

This summer, Elevate Quantum announced it received a Tech Hub Phase 2 Implementation award from the Department of Commerce, unlocking over $127 million in federal and state funding. This award is expected to attract more than $2 billion in private capital and establish the Mountain West as a global leader in quantum innovation.

Cherry Creek School District, along with St. Vrain Valley Schools, Clear Creek School District, and East Grand School District - will lead the Quantum Computing K-12 effort. This adds to the district’s commitment to excellence through Career Technical Education (CTE) courses offered at Cherry Creek Innovation Campus (CCIC) and throughout high schools in the district. The partnership anticipates 10,000 new jobs in this field in the next ten years; 20% with advanced degrees and 80% with the technical certifications and training that CCIC typically provides.

“We are thrilled to be a part of this K-12 effort that empowers students with cutting-edge knowledge and skills, preparing them for the future of technology,” Superintendent Christopher Smith. “This program not only places Cherry Creek students at the forefront of innovation but also equips them with the critical thinking and problem-solving skills essential for the future.”

Through this initiative, Cherry Creek students and staff will have access to multi million-dollar quantum labs and experts, enhancing the district’s curriculum and workforce development programs. Cherry Creek will also play a crucial role in workforce development through internships, apprenticeships, project teamwork, mentorships, classroom speakers, and site visits to leading quantum companies.

“This is about opening doors to new career paths and inspiring students to think beyond traditional boundaries,” Cherry Creek Innovation Campus Principal Steve Day added. “We’re igniting a passion for innovation and preparing our students to explore and shape the frontier of quantum computing.”

CCSD is excited to have a front row seat to this groundbreaking industry and help lead Colorado in building a strong talent pipeline. This initiative will cultivate skilled, passionate local talent, benefiting students and the wider community for years to come.
