CCSD Athletics: Highlights from the week of Nov. 18, 2024

5A State Football: Erie @ CCHS5A State Football: Cherry Creek is in the semifinals

The Cherry Creek High School Bruins are headed to the state football semifinals. No. 1 Creek (11-1) defeated No. 9 Erie 34-14 on Nov. 22 at the Stutler Bowl. The Bruins were led by junior running back Jayden Fox, who rumbled for 168 yards and two touchdowns in the win. Freshman Elijah Cromwell also got into the end zone for Cherry Creek.

The Bruins will take on No. 5 Valor Christian at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 30 at the Stutler Bowl. The victor will play the winner of No. 7 Fairview and No. 6 Legend for the 2024 State Championship on Saturday, Dec. 7 at Canvas Stadium on the campus of Colorado State University.

GHS Ice Hockey Team5A Ice Hockey: Grandview plays its inaugural game 

Grandview’s new consortium hockey team opened its first, official regular season of play this past Friday night against Castle View at the South Suburban Sports Complex in Highlands Ranch. GHS competed well, but three second period goals propelled the Sabercats to the win. The final score was 4-3. Wolves junior Owen Kulczewski opened the scoring for the program’s first goal in history in the first period. Castle View countered with two quick goals in the second to take the lead, but Grandview junior Hunter Simons got the equalizer to tie the score at 2. The SaberCats then scored again to take the lead 3-2 going to the third. The teams traded tallies in the third, but GHS fell by the 4-3 final.

The Cherry Creek Bruins were in action on Nov. 23 on the road against Resurrection Christian in Fort Collins. The Bruins got tallies from junior Shotik Badashyan, seniors Grayson Helm, Cooper Huang, Austin Katz, and junior Davis Ritter for a 5-1 win.

Fall Athletics: Colorado All-State Teams announced

All-State teams in cross country, field hockey, flag football, boys golf, girls gymnastics, softball, boys tennis, and girls volleyball have been announced. Honorees were selected by either a vote of coaches or on the basis of an athlete’s finish in the state championships. The Cherry Creek School District was well represented in the selections.

Bruins' Boys Tennis Head Coach Art Quinn was named Coach of the Year as his club took home the State Team Tennis title on Oct. 22.

First year Cherry Creek Field Hockey Head Coach Tori Karsten was named Coach of the Year as the Bruins won the state title on Nov. 11.
