OHS girls basketball6A Girls Basketball – Overland and Grandview off to good starts

The 2024-25 season is off to a very good start for the Overland Trailblazers girls basketball team. The Blazers are sporting a stout 8-2 record after a decisive home win over Silver Creek on Jan. 4. OHS also went 4-0 at the Tarkanian Classic in Las Vegas and 2-1 at a tourney hosted by Fountain-Fort Carson. Both tournaments were held in December.

The Grandview Wolves also participated in out-of-state, national tournaments. Grandview played stiff competition in December at the She Got Game Tourney in Dallas and the Nike Tournament of Champions in Mesa, Ariz. GHS went 5-2 in those contests. The Wolves now stand at 6-3 after a road loss on Jan. 4 at Valor Christian.

Eaglecrest sports a 6-5 record coming into 2025. The Raptors went 4-0 at the Pacifica Mariner Mayhem Invite in December in California. Eaglecrest went 1-2 at the Nest in a holiday tourney just before break.

Cherokee Trail is 6-5 coming out of the break. The Cougars went 2-2 in the Nike Tournament of Champions in Arizona, and 1-2 at the Denver East Holiday Tourney during the break.

Cherry Creek is 4-4 after going 4-3 in holiday play. The Bruins went 2-2 in the Tournament of Champions in Mesa, Ariz., and 2-2 in their own holiday tourney.

Smoky Hill is trying to get back on the winning track after going 2-8 in the early part of the campaign. The Buffs went 1-2 at the Palmer invite, and 1-2 in the Boulder Valley Invite hosted by Centaurus in early December.

EHS boys basketball6A Boys Basketball – Eaglecrest leads the way in the district

The Eaglecrest Raptors have started the 24-25 season in winning fashion, going 9-2. EHS went 7-2 in December, posting a 3-1 record at the Tarkaninan Classic in Las Vegas. The Raptors fell in the Spalding Division Championship to Bingham, Utah. EHS began 2025 going 2-0 in the Titans-Raptors Invite after wins over Palmer and Douglas County. Eaglecrest will take on Legend in the invite championship game on Jan. 7.

Grandview went 5-4 in December tournament play. The Wolves defeated Vista Peak Prep last Saturday to improve to 6-4 overall.

Cherry Creek went 2-3 in holiday tournaments last month. The Bruins were 2-1 in the Signature Tip-Off Classic and went 1-2 in the Bruins’s Holiday Tournament. Creek fell to 4-4 after losing to ThunderRidge on the road on Jan. 3.

Cherokee Trail went 3-4 in tourneys in December. The Cougars were 1-2 in the Paul Davis Classic hosted by Green Mountain High School. CT split their games at 2-2 in the Orleans Division at the Tarkaninan Classic in Las Vegas. The Cougars started 2025 with a loss to Regis Jesuit and now stand at 5-6.

Smoky Hill sports a 5-6 record after play in December and early January. The Buffs went 3-1 at the Tarkanian Classic in December in Las Vegas and 0-3 at the Nike Tournament of Champions Hoophall West event in January in Mesa, Ariz.

Overland is 2-6 to start the season. The Blazers were on the road in Arizona for the Shoot the Rock Invite, going 1-3 against tough competition.

Centennial League play for both girls and boys begins the week of Jan. 20.

CCHS ice hockey vs. Regis5A Ice Hockey: Cherry Creek and Grandview play on

The Cherry Creek and Grandview ice hockey teams resumed regular season play this past weekend.

The Bruins were 0-1-1, tying the Poudre School District 4-4 on Friday and falling to Valor Christian 5-1 on Saturday. Cherry Creek (5-2-2 overall) will take on Castle View on Jan. 6 at South Suburban.

Grandview fell to 1-7, losing to Lewis-Palmer on Jan. 4 at Big Bear Arena. The Wolves resume play on Jan. 10 against Chatfield.
