Woodland Elementary students celebrate transition to new school

WoodlandOn May 23, almost 300 students gathered in the gym of Altitude Elementary for a special kind of celebration: preparing to move to their new school, Woodland Elementary.

Principal Teolyn Bourbonnie shared her excitement with the students as she welcomed them to their new school community. Set to open in August 2022, Woodland Elementary began construction last year to accommodate the large number of families moving to the southeast part of the Cherry Creek School District.

“I am so excited to see you and celebrate with you all together,” Bourbonnie called out to the students. “We have a fun game today to celebrate our new journey!”

Balloons and cheers filled the air as Bourbonnie and several Woodland staff members led students in a game, then modeled the school’s “B’s” – be bold, be brave, be brilliant and BOUNCE. Students had a chance to ask questions, then received a bear keychain for their backpacks to wear in the fall.

Future Woodland students“These students have been through a lot of change,” Bourbonnie said after the ceremony. “We want to make sure that they know they aren’t leaving Altitude behind, but they are starting a new journey at Woodland.”

Woodland Elementary students will join other Cherry Creek School students in celebrating the first day of school for the next school year on August 15.
