Building Forward: New CCSD elementary school receives official address

Design of new elementary schoolThere’s a new address for young learners in the Cherry Creek Schools family.

The new elementary school projected to open in August, 2022 now has an official address: 7795 S. Blackstone Parkway, Aurora, CO, 80016. This is one of the early steps in the lengthy process of designing, building and opening a new school.

Elementary School #45 was included in the 2020 bond initiative that voters passed last fall to alleviate overcrowding in the area. The school will be located at the corner of South Blackstone Parkway and South Valleyhead Way and serve 650 students. Construction is set to start this summer.

The 75,500 square-foot, two-story building will be on a 9.7 acre plot of land. It will include a unique design that follows a modern aesthetic. There will be opportunities for collaborative innovation spaces and an area planned for outdoor learning. The CCSD Board of Education recently reviewed the proposed boundary enrollment area and will make its final approval on the boundaries and the general contractor for construction at their May board meeting.

Building a new school is also about finding the right staff. In February, the district announced that Teolyn Bourbonnie, who is currently the principal of Walnut Hills Elementary, will be leading the new school.

“I am so excited and grateful to be part of this new chapter in our school district’s history,” Bourbonnie said. “Getting to be part of a school’s beginning is very special, and I know this new elementary school will be a wonderful addition to our community.”
