    Hello, Summit Elementary Community,

Welcome to the 2022-2023 school year!  I have been an educator for a very long time, and the anticipation of a new school year always creates a child-like excitement within me.  Everything feels new, fresh, and possible, kind of like an artist’s blank canvas or a writer’s empty notebook.  The beginning of the school year signals a time to create.  I am eagerly waiting to welcome your children, our staff, and you to this new school year so we can begin to create this next school year together.

I begin this school year reading, thinking, and talking with others about the impact curiosity has on our lives.  I’m learning there is a strong correlation between curiosity and joy.  When we follow authentic curiosities, we find connections in the world between ideas, information, and even other people.  Children are curious about the world around them at a very young age.  And, adults create new understandings and possibilities because of their curiosities.  As we enter this school year, I encourage all of us to consider our curiosities.  How do your questions help you live into your brilliance?  How does following your curiosities bring joy as you experience the world?

In the next weeks, you will notice bulletin boards around our school inviting us to be curious.  At first, you will see these boards may look incomplete or undone.  That is absolutely on purpose.  These spaces around our school are awaiting your childrens’ thinking and curiosities.  The bulletin boards will become filled with their ideas about their own curiosities as we begin our school year together.  I cannot wait to see their thinking!

I know you are curious (see what I did there…) about many details regarding the start of the school year.  Here is a link to our newsletter with important beginning of the year information.  If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to us here at Summit.

Again, welcome to the 2022-2023 school year.  What a great year it will be!
