  • Funding for Cherry Creek Schools - Make your voice heard

We have been sharing information about a proposed funding cut to K-12 education and the Cherry Creek School District. We know there have been questions about school funding, how we might be impacted, and how you can take action.

The video above with Superintendent Chris Smith and Chief Financial and Operating Officer Scott Smith explains more about how these cuts to K-12 education funding would dramatically impact our students and community. Please take the time to watch the video and continue to make your voice heard. Please visit www.kidsmattertoo.org to send a letter or visit our CCSD Legislative Updates page to call CCSD lawmakers.

    Good Afternoon Walnut Hills Families!

I hope you are doing well! CMAS testing at Walnut Hills begins Tuesday, April 8th. The Colorado

Measures of Academic Success (CMAS) are the state's common measurement of students' progress in english language arts, math and science. Students in grades 3rd and 4th take the CMAS tests in math and english language arts. Students in grade 5 take the CMAS tests in math and english language arts, and science.

This helps parents and educators answer important questions such as:

    ● Did my student meet the expectations at their grade level to be on track for the next level of

    learning?

    ● Does my student need additional services and/or support?

    ● How well did my student perform compared to other students across the state?

CMAS is given in English without any help from the teacher. It’s important that students get a good night's sleep and eat a healthy breakfast to start the day because each test session will be between one to two hours long which requires hard work and perseverance. While state testing provides valuable information about your student’s academic achievement and growth, Colorado statute does allow parents to exempt their students from testing without consequences to the

student, school, or district. If you plan to opt your student out of state testing, please login to your

my.cherrycreekschools.org parent portal and click on the “State Assessment Exemption” tile. You may also respond to this message and let me know. I’m happy to answer any questions you have about CMAS.
